An Exercise in Emotional Enucleation

Elena’s Blog is now accepting guest posts, for the first time in history. If you wish to become a contributor, let me know! Here is the first contribution, from my colleague Vladimir Unterfingher.

You only have two choices

Hello, world! I know it’s been a while and I am, as usual, sorry for that. I’m here now because recently I’ve been thinking about an idea that has been my mantra, let’s say, in these past years. I apply it to my life and I admit that I hold the same standard for those…

When I Was One

Very long time no posting here, but really wanted to take this moment and share a poem that I love! Hope to be back here soon with more! ☺️

On (My) Reading Habits

In the last couple of days I’ve spent some time updating this blog, and, of course, this includes the Reading List page, where you can find a list of all (I think) the books I have read so far.

When I got to 2023, I’ve noticed something curious – I spent a considerable amount of time with… audiobooks. 🙂 As a Letters graduate and a die-hard fan of classic formats, this did feel a bit like cheating, but I have to admit that audiobooks are great for when you don’t have that much time for actual reading and a pretty affordable solution if you get a subscription to an audiobook app (I use Voxa).

Here are some of the audiobooks I have loved listening to in 2023:

On Imposter Syndrome

Although I, like probably all of us, have met more than enough people who think that they are the best and that the world revolves around them, not the Sun, I also know that there are many who have to deal with the so-called ”imposter syndrome” more or less every day. What is Imposter Syndrome?…

Of Self-love and Other Demons

I’m very happy to see that people also talk about self-love in February – especially on the 14th. After considering what self-love means to me, I’m proud to say that I probably practice it every single day – although I must admit that it hasn’t always been like this. So, what does self-love mean to…

Others may call it spontaneity – to me, it’s almost rudeness.

I’ve come across a lot of people that do this, from acquaintances to HR officers, and each time I raise my eyebrows in amazement. What am I referring to?The practice of asking someone to do something immediately and without planning ahead or even asking if they are available or interested in doing it. I don’t…

Little (Big) Lessons

After spending quite some time listening to Mr. Andrew Huberman and his podcast, The Huberman Lab, I’ve recently decided to start getting out in the morning, for 15-30 minutes, to get some direct sunlight, and thus correctly increase my cortisol levels and, subsequently, my energy and focus levels. This morning, when getting out of my…

I forgot to “Walk the Talk”

Tonight I’ve just realized that I forgot to walk the talk. For the last couple of years, I tried to explain to many people that time doesn’t change anything without action, that nothing will change or get better if we don’t do something – anything, actually. I tried to convince them of this, but somehow…

A Night with Mr. Wilde’s Ernest-s

I’m not particularly good (yet, one might say) at setting goals. However, directly or indirectly, I did say that I’d like to go more often to the theatre this year. So far so good. The most recent play I’ve seen was at The State Jewish Theatre (Teatrul Evreiesc de Stat) – Good evening, Mister Wilde…
