Equilibrium și Nineteen Eighty Four: două distopii care au la bază, în esență, același rău suprem – dezumanizarea.

Iată ce spune O’Brien, un membru al partidului conducător din cartea 1984, pe când îl torturau pe Winston :

”What happens to you here is forever. We shall crush you down to the point from which there is no coming back. Things will happen to you from which you could never recover, if you lived a hundred years. Never again will you be capable of ordinary human feeling. Everything will be dead inside you. Never again will you be capable of love, or friendship, or joy of living, or laughter, or curiosity, or courage, or integrity. You will be hollow.”

Pentru universul lui Orwell, nu mai există speranță, e distopia perfectă… Bine că în lumea din Equilibrium există însă un Preston…
