I’m not particularly good (yet, one might say) at setting goals. However, directly or indirectly, I did say that I’d like to go more often to the theatre this year.
So far so good.
The most recent play I’ve seen was at The State Jewish Theatre (Teatrul Evreiesc de Stat) – Good evening, Mister Wilde (Bună seara, domnule Wilde!), a fascinating abridgment of The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde.
Much to my delight, the mise-en-scène was as witty and rumbustious as Mister Wilde’s text! There was something more too – funny and clever additions to the lines, pretty great musical pieces and some bits of modernity here and there (I’d say what I mean here, but I don’t really want to make any spoilers), a neat scenery.
As for the actors…well, they were the best that I’ve seen on a theatre stage in the last couple of months, maybe even in the last few years (I’ll just mention Maia Morgenstern here, I’m really grateful that I got to see her in a play) – I believed each and every one of them and in their acting I could see something that is, unfortunately, quite rare. Passion. Passion for their job, for the play and for their characters. And it really made a huuuge difference!
I totally recommend the play and I definitely want to see it (at least) one more time!
P.S. I believe that, from that night, I won’t forget a lovely old lady either who, although with some difficulty, insisted on taking the stairs, not the elevator, and refused any help saying that it’s better that way for her health. 😊 Would be nice to see her there again as well.
P.P.S.: Have you seen the play? Did you enjoy it? Would you recommend anything similar? 👀
